Many visitors flock to the island (also for good reason) during the dry season - but what if we told you that the wet season happens to be one of our favourite times of the year? This season brings an undiscovered paradise for those looking to surf with fewer crowds, pristine conditions, and create a deeper connection to the island's natural beauty.
Lombok’s wet season is roughly from November to April, with the dry season being from May to October. This season brings a shift in weather patterns resulting in more frequent showers, particularly in the afternoons and evenings. However, it is known that Lombok experiences less rain in the monsoon season than its popular neighbour, Bali, due to its geographical location and topography.
The air temperatures around the coastlines through the wet season remain warm, averagingaround 27°C (81°F) to 30°C (86°F), making it a comfortable destination year-round. If you areconsidering venturing into the mountains, it can become a little chiller! So be sure to doublecheck the temperatures of where you plan to visit. Lombok’s sea water temperature fluctuatesbetween 27-29°C all year round making it a major draw for surfers and ideal surfing conditionswithout the need for a wetsuit.
While many surfers visit the island during the dry season, the wet season brings fewer tourists, giving you the chance to enjoy the waves without the hassle of crowded line-ups. During this time, you have the opportunity to catch more waves without congestion, making it the perfect time to learn to surf!
Despite the rain, Lombok’s surf conditions remain ideal (if not better) during the wet season. The offshore winds that prevail help shape the waves, giving long rides and excellent opportunities for all beginner, intermediate, and advanced surfers to improve their skills. We’re talking offshore winds, consistent swells, glassy rolling waves… What more could you want?!

The wet season can bring sudden sporadic rainfall. A lightweight, breathable rain jacket or poncho is a smart addition to your packing list! We recommend looking for something compact and easy to fold away for when those sun shining rays come out - something that will fit perfectly in your day bag when you head out for a surf session or if you choose to ride a scooter, under the seat.
Whether you're surfing with us, exploring the island, or spending the day shopping around the local streets of town, we recommend a small waterproof bag to keep your electronics and valuables dry during sudden rain showers. If you forget, you will find that these are also available to purchase in some of the retail shops as well as the local stalls.
Even during the wet season, Lombok’s tropical sun can be intense. We recommend grabbing some high-quality, reef-safe sunscreen and zinc with a high SPF (50+). For your surf lessons, we always provide quality rash guards for you to wear, but consider bringing a sun hat or even leggings to protect you from those UVs! No one wants their surf trip ruined because of a bad case of sunburn!
